Individual Reading: "The Patriots Games" by Tom Clancy: week 2 (p. 184 from 365)

Summary

Our hero, Mr. Jack Ryan flied out from the UK’s Heathrow Airport. He had a habit to be afraid of planes. It was caused he death oа his parents in the air crash. By the way, he was waiting for his flight on the modern model of planes, called the Concorde. It would take Jack about 5 hours to be at home. Mr. Ryan arrived America to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. There Mr. Ryan was met by his old friend Mr. Oliver Wendell Tyler who had been looking for the Ryans’ house while they were in Britain. At the same time Tyler’s wife Junny had much in common with Cathy: both of them was expecting babies.

In its turn, Kevin O’Donnell and his spy Mr. Cooley, having a habit to fear blood, made a plan not to allow British police to arrest organization’s bomb-maker Maureen Dwyer. But Dan Murray, the representative of FBI in the UK, and James Owens, British police officer, managed to do the operation. Mr. Cooley saw the arrest process. O’Donnell was looking forward to emancipate Sean Miller.

The prisoner had to be transported from one prison to another. Miller was conveyed on four identical blue vans, which left the Brixton prison to Yourmouth ferry. The head of the colony was Robert Highland of the famous C-13. the policeman saved Sean one day from cellmates. The ferry was under attack. Its engines were destroyed. Cops were killed by six terrorists. Sean Miller shouted to Robert Highland but the last wasn’t killed. As a result of the aggression there were 9 deaths. The captain of the ferry needed help. He called for Navy and Medical forces using radio set in one of the police vans.

The onset happened on Christmas. Jack and Cathy decorated New-Year Tree and installed new doll-house for Sally and other presents. Their old friend, Lieutenant Commander Robert Jefferson Jackson or Robby, as friends called him, came to them to celebrate that day. Singing songs, drinking, eating and laughing Jack and Robby were spending that day. From the TV news they came to know that the operation had been made. Mr. Owens was responsible for the transportation. His ultimate goal now was to check lists of people who had known about this plane. Sean Miller and his friends went far away from England to a desert where the former prisoner was taught again.

It was first day back at work for Ryan. Students bought him the ribbon on which was written “Shoot Me.” Bill Show from FBI attended the summer hero to warn that Sean Miller could revenge Jack for the interference of the operation. That’s why Robby wanted to acquaint Jack with Sergeant Major Noah Breckenridge. That man also had a nickname – Gunny. He was the master in shooting from different kinds of guns. Gunny, having known about coming danger, offered to give him lessons to protect the family. Cathy was opposed to this idea. She wouldn’t like if one day Sally found a pistol. The mother could protect her daughter any case. Cathy was an excellent racer on her “Porsche 911.”

To Improve theу protection level of his house Jack installed signalizing. But information was the main protection. He decided to go to the CIA to know more about ULA. The Admiral Greer supposed Jack to be a good reconnaissance. The CIA gave Mr. Ryan all information he deeded but Jack was to sign the declaration of non-disclosure. Mr. Ryan made his own research according to which there was a general feeling to believe that ULA and PIRA had spies in both of them. Judge Arthur Moor, the head of CIA, was happy too find such a search. By the way his deputy, Marty Cantor, helped Jack.
